Glenn Innes is a town with a fascinating history that stretches back to the mid-1800s. The well-preserved heritage buildings lining the streets offer a glimpse into its prosperous past. Exploring the town centre allows you to appreciate the architectural beauty and uncover the stories behind these historic structures.
One of the highlights of our trip was the chance to go fossicking, a popular activity in Glenn Innes thanks to its abundant gemstone deposits. Armed with shovels and sieves, we joined our kids in the exhilarating hunt for hidden treasures. Fossicking areas like Reddestone Creek provided the perfect setting for our adventure.
With each sift through the gravel, we held our breath in anticipation of discovering gemstones. Our efforts were rewarded with the uncovering of some small yet beautiful garnets. We were so delighted with our finds that we decided to have them transformed into jewellery, turning them into invaluable keepsakes of our visit.
Glenn Innes also serves as a gateway to the natural beauty of the New England region. We took advantage of the opportunity to explore the nearby national parks and nature reserves, where we were treated to stunning vistas of rolling hills, expansive forests, and picturesque waterfalls.
