Located deep in the rugged landscapes of Western Australia lies a realm of breathtaking gorges, ancient rock formations, and cascading waterfalls. Welcome to Karijini National Park, where adventure meets awe-inspiring natural beauty at every turn. If you're craving an escape into the untamed heart of Australia, this is the place to be.

As you venture into Karijini National Park, the first thing that strikes you is the intense palette of reds, oranges, and ochres that paint the landscape. The earth here tells a story of ancient upheavals, of tectonic shifts that sculpted the terrain into the dramatic gorges and towering cliffs that define the park.

The gorges themselves are the park's crowning jewels, carved over millions of years by the relentless force of water. Stand on the edge of Oxer Lookout and feel the rush of exhilaration as you gaze down into its depths, where sheer cliffs give way to crystal-clear pools below. Or trek into Hancock Gorge, where narrow passages lead to secluded emerald oases, hidden from the outside world. Descending the ladder down into Hancock Gorge isn’t for the faint-hearted but the rewards are the breathtaking banded shales of the slot canyons of this region. Through the canyon, along the Spider Walk and onto Kermit’s Pool.

In Karijini, water is the lifeblood of the landscape, and nowhere is this more evident than in its myriad of pools and waterfalls. Venture to Fortescue Falls, where a curtain of water cascades into a tranquil plunge pool, inviting you to take a refreshing dip after a day of exploration. Or seek out Fern Pool, a sacred site for the local Indigenous people, where the waters are said to possess healing properties.

Make sure you stroll through Dales Gorge where the wider canyon floor affords you a bit more room to explore and rest as you take on the beauty of the water as it cascades across the floor of the canyon; the reflections of the canyon walls make for amazing photographs.

Karijini is also a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Lace up your hiking boots and tackle one of the park's many trails, each offering its own unique perspective on this ancient landscape. From leisurely strolls along the rim of gorges to challenging treks deep into the heart of the wilderness, there's something here for hikers of all levels.

As the sun sets over Karijini, the true magic of this place comes to life. Set up camp beneath a canopy of stars at the Savannah campgrounds, or if you’re not into camping, then stay at the eco-retreat.
