Taking to the skies is one of man’s earliest dreams which has only recently been realised. The many modes of modern air transport have made the world a smaller place, but it has to be the original idea of the Montgolfier brothers of simply harnessing the power of rising hot air that has to be the best. To drift silently over the countryside is the most pleasurable flying experiences there is, and to do this all within the beauty of the Hunter Valley Vineyards is an unforgettable experience.
I have been lucky enough to fly with the experts at Balloon Aloft to capture some amazing images of their hot air balloons and the region. I can highly recommend their professional team.
Hunter Valley Balloon Fiesta
Each year in late October the Hunter Valley Balloon Fiesta kicks off with a riot of colour as twenty to thirty balloons take to the sky.
It is a pretty early start from the Central Coast but the effort is more than worth it. This is one event that’s already pencilled into my photographic calendar for this year. You shouldn’t miss this amazing spectacle!
Simply check the local press for this year’s dates and meet at Peterson House at around 5am. If you want to fly make sure you buy your vouchers early, as this is a very popular event.
