This pristine wilderness, situated approximately 200 kilometres from of Sydney, making it a great option for a long weekend escape for those seeking a break from the urban hustle.
Dunns Swamp, has a unique origin dating back to 1930 when the Kandos Weir was built. The damming of the Cudgegong River, intended to supply water to the Kandos Cement Plant, resulted in the creation of Dunns Swamp. The subsequent flooding around the area formed a haven for wildlife and a tranquil oasis for visitors. The stunning waterway is surrounded by ancient sandstone pagodas, lush forests, and diverse flora and fauna, contributing to the ecological significance of this World Heritage-listed site within Wollemi National Park.
For adventure-seekers, Ganguddy-Dunns Swamp offers a diverse range of outdoor activities. From kayaking and canoeing on the pristine waters to exploring the surrounding bushwalks and birdwatching, there's something to captivate every nature enthusiast. The tranquillity of the swamp sets the stage for a leisurely paddle or a quiet picnic along the shoreline. We hired a kayak from the guys at Southern Cross Kayaking. Can highly recommend of you don’t bring your own Kayak as the couple of hours we spent paddling around the waterways provided an amazing opportunity to observe wildlife and appreciate the unique landscape of this region.
