Newsletters by Landscape Photographer R a Stanley

Hello again. Another busy year has seen the opening of my new Central Coast gallery, accredited membership of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and so much more. My latest ‘on location’ shoots have taken me to the wintery 'High Country' and plenty of places closer to home.

With Christmas upon us once again, it’s time for our annual hunt for that perfect gift. If you haven’t already visited our East Gosford Gallery, then now’s the right time. You’ll also find us in our convenient location at Erina Fair during the Christmas period.

On Location

My main goal this year was to shoot the Australian Alps with a wintery backdrop. My first visit to the Alps in May was to shoot the autumn colours in all their glory (newsletter 7). I was even greeted with some early snow during this visit. But it wasn’t until I returned in August that the Australian winter really put on its show.

I wanted to illustrate the contrasts of the Australian seasons and I don’t think there is any better way of doing this than photographing the high country. To achieve my goal I donned a pair of cross country skis and after some slow progress around Rocky Valley damn I finally made it to my destination; Wallace’s hut in the Bogong high plains. The crisp untouched snow that greeted me made all the hard work worthwhile; I don’t think anyone had visited the hut for weeks! I’ve pictured the hut alongside the same image taken in late summer. Together they tell a great story about the seasons of the high country.

Another goal of mine was to summit Mount Kosciusko, Australia’s highest peak. Kosciusko isn’t one of the world’s most challenging of peaks; none the less, a hard slog in snow shoes. The view from the summit was well worth the effort.

No visit to the Snowy Mountains would be complete without dropping into the town of Jindabyne. Here I managed to get a high vantage point to compose the town along-side the lake.

Anyone visiting the Alpine region shouldn’t miss the Kiewa valley, which offers some spectacular views as you travel up to the mountains.

Central Coast

As ever, I’ve been scouring the Central Coast for new locations and angles to bring you. I hope I’ve captured some of the essence of our local area in the new shots below.

A little further afield
